18 Sep 2005    What if Heather Does Have Two Mommies?

In one of the recent "lesbian parenting cases," one woman donated the egg, and the other carried the child to term. This is a sad case, quite apart from the legal ramifications of the precedent it sets. These are not pioneering women, standing bravely on the vanguard of social change. They were afraid: afraid of each other, afraid of being hurt.  These two women, for whatever reason, did not want to form a relationship with their child’s male parent. They thought they could use technology to bypass the problems associated with a messy relationship with the opposite sex. In the end, they could not really give themselves to each other either.

22 Jul 2005    Kinsey is Dead: Long Live Kinsey
Sex researcher Alfred Kinsey is hailed as a pioneer of enlightened sexual attitudes. But reputable scholars have been aware of flaws in his research since 1952. Unfortunately, his discredited claims are still being repeated. Just this spring of 2005, the Montgomery County, MD, schools produced a sex ed curriculum for 8th and 10th graders, which parroted the outdated claims of Alfred Kinsey that 10% of the population is gay. In fact, less than one percent of people have had exclusively same sex partners throughout their lifetimes. It is time to stop repeating Kinsey's inflated numbers.

5 Jun 2005    Do Kids Celebrate "Family Diversity?"

Do children really enjoy being part of "alternative families?' Many of our public opinion-making elites don't even want us to ask this question. But after talking with hundreds of people, I'm convinced that very few people in "diverse families" see themselves as being on the vanguard of social change. Most people who have lived through the revolution in family life are actually looking for something ordinary: lifelong, stable married love.

1 May 2005    After School in Empty Houses
In "After School In Empty Houses," I review the new book, Home Alone America by Mary Eberstadt. I believe her message is both encouraging and alarming.  For parents who are making the effort to take personal care of their kids and be attentive to their needs, Home Alone America offers encouragement. At the same time, the book offers an alarming picture of the sadness that many children and teens feel about being left alone by their parents.  I really hope you enjoy the review, and the book.

28 Apr 2005    Kinsey Fact and Fiction
This article debunks some of the more outrageous claims made by Alfred Kinsey. In light of the fawning portrayal of Kinsey, both from Hollywood and PBS,  people are entitled to know just how bad his work really was.

13 Feb 2005    The True Cost of False Witness

False accusations of child abuse wreak havoc with divorce cases and with the child welfare system. One unfounded accusation can destroy a family, and harm the child who is supposedly being protected. I draw on my experience as a foster parent, as well as social science research to show how devastating false witness really can be.

30 Jan 2005    What Dads Do
Competitiveness between husbands and wives is one of the more destructive legacies of the modern feminist movement. In today's article, I tell a story about myself and my husband Rob, that makes the point that men and women are complementary to one another. Husbands and wives can use their unique strengths to build up the family, working together rather than keeping score on each other.

16 Jan 2005    The Gift of Monogamy
What do the newly release DVD Shark Tales, Dr. Laura and Christianity have in common? They all teach that real love can make a "somebody" out of anybody.  Marriage is a great social equalizer. But this kind of equality can only come about in monogamous societies. in polygamous societies, the wealthy men hog the desirable women. It is a historical fact that Christianity introduced lifelong monogamy as an ideal. Christianity demands monogamy of its followers, and promises them the grace to carry it through.

10 Oct 2004    What Straight Divorce has to do with Gay Marriage

Most Americans consider no-fault divorce a done-deal: feminists have effectively trashed the dreaded 1950's when divorce was considered a scandal. Few public opinion leaders are willing to link divorce to the arguments for heterosexual marriage. But we can’t win the fight for heterosexual marriage without confronting the issue of divorce. Far from being a losing strategy, we can only win if we bring the divorce issue out of the closet.

18 Apr 2004    Right to Choose Common Sense
Reproductive freedom is a right unlike any other: we have the right to suspend the laws of cause and effect, to obtain the outcome we want. Sexual freedom is the right to unlimited sexual activity, without a live birth. If women knew that there were serious side-effects to abortion, both these freedoms would be in doubt. Therefore, debates about side effects are never simply about scientific evidence, but are freighted with ideological baggage.

27 Mar 2004    Living with the Sandwich We Made
The extended age spread between the generations is one of the unintended consequences of delayed childbearing. The "Sandwich Generation" caring for aging parents and pre-school children at the same time, is facing the natural consequences of decades of contracepted sex, delayed marriaged and late childbearing.

7 Feb 2004    When Jobs are Illegal, Only Illegals will have Jobs
Unrealistic wages and benefits create an opening for illegal jobs, and illegal aliens are more likely to fill them.  "Progressive" labor policies, such as those in both Europe and California, are at least partially to blame for our immigration problems. Any solution to the immigration mess must take this fact into account.
